Tyler Kennedy on what the Penguins need in their next coach

'I’d be a great candidate for the Pittsburgh Penguins, to be honest'

Former Penguins forward Tyler Kennedy has thoughts on who the team should be looking at to lead the team after head coach Mike Sullivan and the organization parted ways earlier this week.

One of those people he thinks that would do a good job is Tyler Kennedy himself.

Kennedy told Joe Starkey, “I’d be a great candidate for the Pittsburgh Penguins, to be honest.”

“You wanna talk about a guy that knows how to push guy’s buttons,” said Kennedy. “When you look at the best coaches that ever coached, they weren’t first-line players, they weren’t superstars, what were they? Grinders.”

Kennedy says those lower-line players have to work harder and learn the game because they don’t have the natural abilities of a top-tier talent.

Asked if is putting his hat in the ring, Kennedy said, “I should, I think I’d be a great coach.”

Talking about the kind of coach the Penguins need, Kennedy said, “definitely not a recycled coach.”

He thinks a college or AHL coach that’s been around younger players is what the Penguins should be looking for.
