The Pirates have reportedly signed free agent Dee Strange-Gordon a day after he opted out of a deal with the Chicago Cubs.

Strange-Gordon, who was drafted in the 4th round of the 2008 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

This amid the injury news that INF Erik Gonzalez is a couple of weeks from playing, INF/OF Phillip Evans is on the concussion injured list, OF Gregory Polanco is out until at least next weekend.

It also could lead to more speculation that they will trade second baseman Adam Frazier soon.

Strange-Gordon bounced around to nearly every team in the division just this season. Opting out of his minor-league contract with the Cubs on Tuesday.

Overall the 33- year-old Strange-Gordon played in 1002 major league games with a .286 batting average and .319 on base percentage. He doesn’t hit for much power, 18 homers, but has an abnormally high 54 career triples and 333 stolen bases.

He’s a proponent for mental health awareness and hosted a baseball clinic and drive-thru gear giveaways in his home state of Florida this year.

Reportedly, Strange-Gordon will begin his Pirates career with AAA Indianapolis.
