PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Given the opportunity after his was designated for assignment by the Giants, 28-year-old Joey Bart became the Pirates best catcher. The team has agreed to a $1.7 million deal to avoid arbitration.

The second-overall pick in the 2018 by San Francisco, Bart played in 80 games with the Pirates leading them in OPS at .799 and fourth in home runs with 13. He would hit was for a .265 average, .337 on-base, with 11 doubles.


Bart is expected to be in a rotation with Endy Rodriguez, after he missed all of last season due to an elbow injury.  Pirates first-round pick Henry Davis could be in the mix as well.
