Pirates GM selling Pittsburgh home, team says he's moving closer to PNC Park

According to 93.7 The Fan’s Andrew Fillipponi, Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington’s Sewickley Heights home is for sale.

Poni confirmed the information with two sources.

His home went on the market earlier this week, according to Poni.

The “Tudor Revival” home was built in 1910 and sits on seven acres of land, right near Allegheny Country Club.

Cherington’s home being on the market raises questions about the future of the GM’s time in Pittsburgh.

But, a source with the Pirates tells Fillipponi that the sale has nothing to do with the recent struggles of the team.

“The decision to put the house on the market has been in the works for roughly 6 months. Cherington wants a place closer to PNC Park,” the Pirates source told Poni.

Hired after the 2019 season, Cherington has led the Pirates baseball operations for six seasons.

Last week, Cherington and the team fired manager Derek Shelton, who was hired shortly after Cherington came aboard.

The Pirates are 14-29 so far this season.

The Pirates offense has struggled, unable to score over four runs in the past 19 games.
