It’s only early March, but Henry Davis continues to rake and Paul Skenes is throwing gas!
The Pirates beat the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday afternoon 7-3.
Davis hit a home run for the third straight game. A two-run homer in the third inning.
He’s batting .400 (6-for-15) this spring with three home runs and eight RBI over six games.
In his second spring appearance, Skenes went two innings. While he gave up a home run to the first batter he faces, he calmed down after that.
He threw 25 strikes out of 32 pitches, struck out three and didn’t walk a batter. He gave up three hits.
The most viral part of Skenes outing was the sound his fastball made hitting the catcher’s glove, as he threw over 100 mph, again, with seeming ease.
Starting pitcher Luis Ortiz gave up one unearned run, striking out three of the 11 batter she faces, striking out the side in the first inning on 14 pitches.
Jared Triolo continued his impressive early spring, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
As a team, the Pirates have 18 home runs in eight games. The most in the Grapefruit League, so far.

The Pirates sent LPH Anthony Solometo (ranked 4th in the Pirates system last season), RHP Bubba Chandler (ranked 5th) and RHP Thomas Harrington (ranked 6th) were all sent to minor league camp, along with infielder Andres Alvarez to minor league camp.
