Former Pirates pitcher Jose DeLeon has died after a battle with cancer. He was 63.
Drafted by the Pirates in the 3rd round in 1979, DeLeon pitched four seasons out of 13 in Pittsburgh.
The Dominican Republic native made his debut with the Bucs in 1983, going 7-3 over 15 starts.
He led the National League in strikeouts in 1989 while pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals with 201.
DeLeon's last season in the MLB was in 1995 with the Montreal Expos.
In total, DeLeon went 86-119 with a 3.76 ERA over 13 seasons with 1,594 strikeouts and 841 walks.
