Henry Davis showing his potential, time to make him the starting catcher

Pirates starting catcher Joey Bart was placed on the injured list Wednesday after suffering a concussion during Tuesday night’s game.

With Bart unfortunately on the shelf for some time, the Bucs turn to former overall number one pick Henry Davis at catcher.

And, now is the time to make Davis the every day starting catcher moving forward.

“You got another one-one pick who’s starting to look the part,” said Adam Crowley about Davis’ recent production.

Davis has been playing better over the past week or so with four hits over the past two games, including a home run and double on Tuesday night, when he came in for the injured Bart.

His defense has also improved, blocking balls, throwing players out and his pitch framing, while still a little under average, has improved vastly compared to last season.

“I think he’s turning a corner and I hope this isn’t just a hot streak or something like that, but his pedigree and his success in the minor league makes you think, maybe he is turning that corner.”

Davis is a guy who has worked hard to become better, and it looks like it’s starting to pay off.

What could be his last chance to show he can be a genuine Major League player. Henry Davis is showing he can be the guy. The Pirates just need to keep putting him out there.
