According to the Pirates, 'an exam showed a spasm of the left forearm.'
Hayes will now be listed as day-to-day.
After signing a record-breaking contract with the Pirates, Ke'Bryan Hayes has suffered an apparent injury.
The medical staff and manager Derek Shelton were seen looking at Hayes' left hand in the bottom of the first inning.
It's known what caused the injury, but Hayes attempted to catch a fly ball in left field.
It wasn't the way that we wanted to see it, but rookie Diego Castillo made is Major League debut, replacing Hayes at third base.
At the plate, Hayes went 0-for-1 (strikeout).
It was announced Hayes just signed an eight-year, $70 million deal earlier in the day.
Hayes missed significant time last season after a left wrist injury in the second game of the year in 2021.
