It’s the tear of the sagittal band ligament on his left ring finger. Six weeks in splint, potentially back for playoff hunt in September. Typically splinting allows it to heal w/o surgery. #Pirates
Pirates rookie star Konnor Griffin could miss one month of action after suffering another injury.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the 20-year-old shortstop “has a torn tendon in his left ring finger.”
“While Griffin could play through it, rehab is the likeliest option.”
Passan says rehab could keep Griffin out “at least a month”.
No word on how the injury happened, but it could’ve been after making two spectacular catches on Sunday against the Nationals in Washington.
Griffin got up and was grabbing at his hand after awkwardly landing on the diving catches.
Griffin has played in eight games since returning from a strain in his right forearm.
Griffin is batting .276 with and OPS of .736, 25 RBI, five home runs and 20 stolen bases (including stealing home over the weekend).
We should learn more this afternoon before the Pirates take on the Braves at PNC Park.
