McCutchen ties Clemente for 3rd all-time in Pirates home runs

Andrew McCutchen tied Roberto Clemente for third place all-time in Pirates home runs Sunday in San Diego.

The record tying homer came in the top of the third inning against Padres starting pitcher Randy Vásquez.

Apparently McCutchen used the horrible missed call against Henry Davis with the bases loaded Friday night from home plate umpire, Edwin Jimenez, as fuel. After staring him down and giving the umpires a piece of his mind Friday night after the loss, McCutchen homered Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

For McCutchen, he has been a Pirate for 12 seasons and accomplished this feat in game 1,630 as a Bucco. Clemente played for 18 seasons and hit number 240 in his final season. it was career game 2,418.

It has been a wild weekend series for McCutchen. He passed Hall of Fame shorstop Arky Vaughn in hits Friday night. That moved McCutchen into ninth place in all-time hits for Pirates hitters. He is 303 behind Bill Mazeroski for 8th all-time, with 2,016.

McCutchen hadn't homered in a game since April 27 against the Dodgers. He then homered in back to back games Saturday and Sunday to tie Clemente.

He sits behind Ralph Kiner with 301 homers and Willie Stargell with 475.
