In 82 games this year, new Pirate infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit .292 with a .758 OPS with eight doubles, two triples and seven home runs with the Blue Jays.
He was traded by Toronto before the deadline to Pittsburgh in exchange for Charlies McAdoo, a 22-year-old, right-handed outfielder.
Kiner-Falefa was in the middle of a rehab assignment for the Blue Jays after he went on the injured list in early July with a knee sprain.
The Pirates announced Friday that Kiner-Falefa will continue his rehab in the Pirates organization at Double-A Altoona.
He’s in the lineup for the Curve Friday. He’s playing shortstop and batting second.
Kiner-Falefa is related to Ralph Kiner, the Hall of Famer whose number 4 is retired by the Pirates. He is a fourth cousin on his mother’s side and now will wear the same uniform.
The 29-year-old said he planned on a few more games in the minors before being recalled.
We’ll see how long the Pirates keep him in the minors on his rehab assignment.
