Pirates shortstop Kevin Newman is expected to miss the next 3-5 weeks with a groin injury.

Pirates Director of Sports Medicine Todd Tomczyk made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.
Newman was taken out of the game during Tuesday night’s loss to Milwaukee at PNC Park after complaining of left groin tightness.
He missed three games with a groin injury earlier this season before returning to the lineup last week.
"This is a new injury that happened last night," Tomczyk said. "Yes, he was tight about two weeks ago in a similar region. The specific muscle he strained is a new injury."
He's expected to go on the 10-day injured list.
"It's a concern," Tomczyk said. "We are still seeing injuries that we saw in Spring Training. He's going to need time, but the most encouraging thing is Kevin has a really good mindset right now. He has a really positive outlook. Knowing him, he will beat that 3-5 week timeframe with the long range goal that there is a long season to play."
Newman is batting .250 so far this season with 12 hits, eight RBI and four runs scored.
"It’s an unfortunate thing," said Pirates Manager Derek Shelton. "He had good at-bats last night. Kind of felt like he was finding his groove offensively. Any time you lose someone who plays a lot of innings for you, it’s unfortunate."
Known for his defense, Newman has already committed four errors this season after only giving up three all of last season.
The move is fueling some speculation that the Pirates could call up Oneil Cruz.
