As expected, first overall draft pick Paul Skenes is continuing his fast rise through the Pirates farm system.
According to multiple reports, including the Post-Gazette’s Jason Mackey, Skenes is set to make his next start of the season on Saturday at Double-A Altoona.
The Curve confirmed the report on Monday afternoon.
Skenes has made three appearances so far in the Pirates organization, giving up only one hit and zero runs.
He made one appearance with the Pirates rookie league and two at Low-A Bradenton.
He has struck out five and given up zero walks over four innings pitched.
Skenes becomes the fifth overall pick in the draft to play for the Curve.
The last two were catcher Henry Davis and pitcher Gerrit Cole.
Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington said on his weekly program Sunday they still project him throwing under 20 innings in the organization this year after his large workload in college.
