PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – With Endy Rodriguez on the Injured List and the team trading Joey Bart earlier, the Pirates added veteran catcher Christian Bethancourt from the Yankees for cash.
The 34-year-old begins his career with AAA Indianapolis, but is expected to be on the Pirates taxi squad in Los Angeles this weekend.
Bethancourt spent this season in the minors hitting .270 with 14 home runs, 45 RBI with an .811 OPS between the Cubs and Yankees AAA teams (Iowa, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre). In his last season in the majors, 2024, he hit .209 with five home runs in 62 games between the Marlins and Cubs. The right-handed hitter has played in 1,301 career MLB games with a .229 average with 35 home runs. He can also play first base.
