PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The Pirates added more depth to their pitching rotation battle on Saturday, signing a veteran right-hander as a non-roster invitee.
36-year-old Chase Anderson has 200 starts in his 10-year MLB career and is coming off a 1-6 season with Colorado, after being waived by Tampa Bay in 2023. The ERA 5.42 in 19 games (17 starts), 86.1 innings. 64 strikeouts, 33 walks and 17 home runs allowed. The WHIP was 1.42.
The 6'1", 210-pound Anderson had his best stretch with Milwaukee in 2017 and 2018 winning 21 games in 55 starts giving up 112 earned runs in 299.1 innings, but even in those times he gave up homers. He led the league in homers allowed in 2018 with 30. He would struggle from 2020-22 bouncing between the Blue Jays, Phillies and Reds—the combined ERA approaching seven.
Anderson joins others as veteran, non-roster invitee pitchers-Wily Peralta, Brent Honeywell, Ben Heller, Michael Plassmeyer, Ryder Ryan and Connor Sadzeck.
