First reported by Francys Romero, left-handed reliever Aroldis Chapman agreed to a one-year, $10.5 million guaranteed contract. This is pending a physical.
After the worst season of his career with the Yankees in 2022 (4-4, 4.46 ERA, 9 saves, 1.43 WHIP), Chapman had a 3.09 ERA in 61 games between the Royals and Rangers in 2023. In 58.1 innings, Chapman struck out 103 and walked 36 with a 1.25 WHIP.
The 35-year-old had his best seasons with the Reds winning 19 games, a 2.17 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 546 strikeouts in 319 innings with 146 saves. He's been as dominant against the Pirates as any team in his career. In 49 career innings against the Bucs, a 0.92 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, 84 strikeouts and a 2-2 record. The ERA at PNC Park in 24 career games, 0.75.
Chapman joins a group that includes two-time All-Star David Bednar.
