Pirates announce revised Spring Training schedule

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) — The Pittsburgh Pirates announced Friday some changes that had been made to the team's 2021 Grapefruit League Spring Training season.

The changes were driven by COVID-19 health and safety protocol put into place by the MLB.

The first major shift is that the opening day of the spring schedule has been pushed back one day.

So the schedule will now begin on Sunday, Feb. 28.

The Pirates will take on the Baltimore Orioles at Sarasota at 1:05 p.m.

Overall, the spring schedule will now feature 29 games in 31 days.

The Pirates will play their home stretch of 15 games at LECOM Park in Bradenton, Florida, which was truncated from the original 17 that the league had planned.

The spring home opener is slated for Tuesday, March 2 against the Detroit Tigers.

As with all home games this spring, it'll start at 1:05 p.m.

The only exception to that would be March 19's game, which will start at 6:05 p.m.
