Pirates call up Chavis, send Castro, Park back to Minors

The Pirates have promoted infielder Michael Chavis from Triple-A Indianapolis and outfielder Anthony Alford has rejoined the team from the 10-day injured list.

To make room on their roster, the Pirates have optioned infielder Rodolfo Castro to Double-A Altoona and infielder/outfielder Hoy Park has been sent to Indy.

Chavis was acquired by the Bucs in a trade with the Boston Red Sox for pitcher Austin Davis.

In 17 games with Indy, Chavis started at second base seven time, first base six times, three at third and one in right field.

He hit .246 (17-for-69) with five doubles, five homeruns and 12 RBI.

In 13 games with the Pirates, Castro hit .198 (17-for-86) with two doubles, five homeruns and eight RBI.

Park, who was acquired in the trade to the New York Yankees for Clay Holmes, was batting .200 (12-for-60) over 12 games with the Pirates, with four doubles, one homerun and five RBI.
