PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – At one time the Pirates best power prospect, Friday outfielder/first baseman Matt Gorski was designated for assignment and infielder Jared Triolo sent to AAA.

Taking Gorski's spot on the 40-man roster is right-hand reliever Yohan Ramirez, who joins the team in Minnesota on Friday.


Ramírez went 2-1 with seven saves, a 3.19 ERA (31.0ip/11er) and 41 strikeouts in 27 appearances with Indianapolis this season. He was tied for third in the International League in saves and also posted a 1.88 ERA (14.1ip/3er) in his last 12 appearances with the Indians. With four teams last year (Baltimore, Mets, Dodgers, Boston), the 30-year-old went 0-5, 6.20 ERA, 38 games, 45 innings, 17 walks, 12 hit batters, 45 strikeouts, 1.47 WHIP.

The 27-year-old Triolo was hitting .158 in 139 at bats this season with six doubles and three home runs. Triolo has had two hits since June 9.

Gorksi is also 27, the Bucs 2019 second-round pick hit .195 in 41 at bats with the Pirates this year with a pair of home runs. In 22 games at AAA, the right-handed hitter had a .278 average/.837 OPS, seven doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI. In 2021 and 2022 he had 41 home runs in 176 games between High A and AA. Last year Gorski hit 23 home runs in 114 games with AAA Indianapolis.
