PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Pirates score 14 runs on 17 hits in a 14-7 win over the Mets Friday night.
After the Mets tied the game 2-2 in the top of the third inning, a Francisco Lindor error in the bottom of the inning that could have been an inning ending double play led to 5 runs for the Pirates.
Ke'Bryan Hayes singled in a run, Ji-Hwan Bae singled home two and Josh Palacios hit an RBI single to score Bae.
The bats were red hot for the Pirates in this one as Ke'Bryan Hayes went 5-5 with 4 RBI's, Jack Suwinski 3-5 with two RBIs including a home run, and Carlos Santana went 2-5 with a solo home run.
"Yeah bounce back and just kept going the whole game," said manager Derek Shelton. "It was good to see, a really good offensive night for our group and we had good swings throughout."
Rich Hill pitched 7 innings only allowing two runs and he struck out six in the win.
"He executed the whole game. I mean he gave up the one home run to Lindor on a hanging breaking ball, other than that he was really good all game long, both sides of the plate with all of his pitches," said Shelton.
Hill, at 43 years old finished the night throwing 119 pitches. He now has six quality starts this season which is second behind Mitch Keller.
"Yeah it was very impressive. I mean he was in tune the entire game," said Shelton.
Andrew McCutchen inched closer to 2,000 career hits with a 1-4 night he is now just one hit away from the milestone.
"It's really cool. I think the crowd was into it and I think it's going to be a really special moment when he gets it," said Shelton.
The Pirates handed the Mets their 7th loss in a row and will look to make it 8 on Saturday afternoon as Johan Oviedo faces Kodai Senga at 4:05 on the Fan.
