The Pirates have signed left-handed pitcher Josh Fleming and according to a photo from the Post-Gazette’s Jason Mackey, he’s already in Bradenton throwing with the team.
The Pirates confirmed the signing of Fleming on Wednesday along with catcher Yasmani Grandal.
It's reportedly a split contract, meaning there is one salary if he makes the majors and another if he is in the minors.
The 27-year-old has pitched for the Tampa Bay Rays for four seasons.
He’s posted a 4.88 ERA over that time, going 19-13 over 55 games.
He’s started in 22 with most of his appearances in relief.
Fleming has struck out 144 and walked 69 over 223.1 innings pitched.
Last season, Fleming went 2-0 appearing in 12 games, starting in three. He had 25 strike outs over 51.2 innings.
If Fleming makes the club, he’ll make $850,000, according to FanSided’s Robert Murray.
The Pirates will likely utilize Fleming a bullpen arm who can make a spot start here and there, when needed.
