According to reports, the Pirates are trading one of their veterans.
First baseman/designated hitter Carlos Santana is reportedly heading to the rival Milwaukee Brewers for short stop prospect Jhonny Severino.
According to Jason Mackey, of the Post-Gazette, Severino was one of two “big international signing for (the Brewers)” last season.
Santana was batting .235 for the Pirates this season with 12 home runs, including three this past series against the Padres, 53 RBI and an OPS of .732.
It was expected the Pirates would move the 37-year-old, who signed a one-year deal, worth $6.725 million in the offseason.
The 18-year-old Severino is in rookie ball for the Brewers.
Severino is not on MLB Pipeline’s top 30 prospects for Milwaukee.
The Santana trade is likely the first of a few before the deadline on August 1.
