The Pittsburgh Pirates have done something they’ve never done before: signed a player to a 9-figure contract.

Outfielder Bryan Reynolds and the Pirates are reportedly in agreement on an 8-year, $106.75 million contract extension through 2031.

The dead is the richest, by far, in Pirates history, surpassing the 8-year, $70 million deal signed by third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes last year.

The financial terms and length of the contract have reportedly been agreed to for some time, but the deal was held up due to Reynolds’ camp wanting an opt-out option after the fourth year.

The new contract, according to multiple reports, does not include any player opt-out, and does include a team option in 2031 in which the Pirates would either pay Reynolds $20 million or buy out his contract for $2 million. It does, however, including a six-team no-trade clause, according to the Post-Gazette's Jason Mackey.

Reynolds will make $10 million in 2024, $12 million in 2025, $14 million in 2026 and then $15 million each season from 2027-2030, per FanSided's Robert Murray.

The 28-year-old is hitting .294 with five home runs and 18 RBIs for the Pirates, which lead the NL Central at 16-7 and have won seven consecutive games.
