Report: Pirates will likely get 1st overall draft pick

ESPN's Jeff Passen says MLB likely to use regular season record

According to a report, Major League Baseball will most likely use team records to determine the draft order, giving the Pirates, most likely the number one pick.

ESPN's Jeff Passen reports while MLB has yet to announce how the draft order will be determined a source tells him, "it's highly likely that the draft order will be determined by this year's record."

As of Tuesday morning, the Pirates hold the worst record in the league at 15-39 and if they lose at least three more games, they'll clinch for the worst record in the league.

The Texas Rangers, who have the second worst record currently are at 19-35.

If the Pirates do get the top pick, it is safe to say they will select either Kumar Rocker or Jack Leiter, two top-ranked right-handed pitchers out of Vanderbilt.

The Pirates have to win at least two of their last six games or they will clinch the worst winning percentage by a Pirates team in history.
