Pirates manager Derek Shelton is excited his second baseman has been voted in to start in the 2021 MLB All-Star Game.
He was so excited, he gave Adam Frazier a bottle of his favorite bourbon, Old Fitzgerald 9 Year.
Speaking to the team in the clubhouse, Shelton said he was going to tell his players what their workout plans are going to be over the break, but first wanted to congratulate Frazier.
“Frazier’s a huge bourbon guy also, we talk a lot about it, he’s never had it so I dad this bottle put aside for this,” said Shelton after Thursday night’s game. “It’s a really good bottle, he’ll enjoy it.”
What Shelton didn’t plan was Frazier being in a towel after he had just got out of the hot tub and taking a shower.
“I was wondering why the crap we had a 6:15 meeting for protocols thought that could of waiting and be being the (player’s) rep, I was trying to find him before that meeting to let him know I’d been in contact with the PA and didn’t have any new information for him, so couldn’t find him. . . I mean it caught me a little off guard, but pretty cool moment right there.”
After the announcement, his teammates began clapping while Shelton handed him the bottle, gave him a hug and said, “f**k yeah, congratulations man, really cool.”
Frazier continued to receive hugs from his teammates while wearing a towel with one of them heard saying, “put some clothes on!”
Frazier says he doesn't know when he'll get to enjoy the bottle of Old Fitzgerald, but is happy he now has it.
