PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – After an inning in a rookie complex league, Pirates first-round pick Paul Skenes pitched in his first ‘Class A ‘game Tuesday night in Bradenton.
Skenes allowed a single to the first Lakeland Flying Tigers batter before getting a called strike three followed by a swinging strike. Then Seth Stephenson, who singled, stole second and went to third on an error, was caught in a rundown trying to steal home for the final out.
He did hit 100 miles-an-hour on a strikeout pitch and now has three strikeouts in his two innings of work. GM Ben Cherington said he expects Skenes will be limited to 20 total innings the rest of this season, but they will decide after each start if he could move up a level in the minor leagues.
Bucs 2023 13th round pick, Charles McAdoo, from San Jose State, hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs in the first two innings of the game. 2023 second-round pick Mitch Jebb, from Michigan State, had a double and triple in the first two innings giving him 13 runs scored in 14 career professional games.
