Audacy NFL Insider Jason La Canfora told The Fan Morning Show Monday, he believes Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin should be considered for NFL's Coach of the year.
NFL insider Michael Lombardi said on Monday that Tomlin IS the coach of the year, "end of story."
Cook & Joe host Joe Starkey couldn't disagree with them more.
"I don't even know what to say," said Starkey. "This is crazy."
Tomlin and the Steelers were able to go from 2-6 or almost making the playoffs, finishing the season 9-8.
That means another non-losing season for Tomlin, who has never had one since becoming a head coach in the NFL in 2007.
"He made the playoffs last year, they went out and spent a bunch of money on free agents and he had a worse record and missed the playoffs, what the hell are we doing here," asked Starkey.
Starkey adds that Tomlin isn't even the second half coach of the year, pointing out Dan Campbell with the Lions and Doug Peterson with the Jacksonville "bleeping" Jaguars were able to do the same thing.
Starkey gives Tomlin a C+ and says you don't blow a 10-point lead to Zach Wilson and the Jets if you're the best coach of the year in the NFL.
Missing the playoffs this year marks six years since the Steelers have had a playoff win.
That's the longest streak without a playoff win for the Steelers since Chuck Noll took over as coach in 1969.
There may be encouraging signs moving into 2023, but Tomlin is not the coach of the year.
