Richie Walsh of KDKA was down in Bradenton to cover the early stages of the Pirates Spring Training.
He had a busy day and was able to catch up with the team's star Bryan Reynolds on his current standing with the team.
Reynolds' future has been one of the biggest plot points of camp so far this year, with him requesting a trade in the offseason, but then saying he's still open to an extension if the deal is right.
Walsh joined The PM Team w/Poni and Mueller on 93.7 The Fan to talk about the all-star's future, "He wants a contract, he wants a fair deal.
He wants to stay here, him and his wife love Pittsburgh, he wants to spend the rest of his career there."
Which is great news for Pirates fans, Reynolds is the key cog in the team now, a fan favorite, and the fact that he wants to remain being that has to make the front office want to get it done more too.
Walsh says they offered Reynolds 6 years for $80 million, but he wants 8 years for $134 million. He says is if Nutting and the teams could get to somewhere in the 6-7 years for $100 million range, it will likely happen.
"He's 100% in right now. One of the reasons he told me he wants to be here [is] he loves the direction of this team. He thinks the future is bright," elaborated Walsh.
With so much young talent here and coming up through the minors, it can't be denied the direction of the franchise is on a positive trend.
The team has their sights set on being a winning ball club by 2024, having B-Rey around makes it all the easier on them.
Walsh said he thinks a deal will definitely get done, and for all of Pirates nation lets pray he's right.
