The Pirates are riding high at 6-1 as they get ready to open PNC Park today against the Baltimore Orioles.
While the weather isn’t favorable for baseball and flood waters still persist, it’s April in Pittsburgh and fans are used to any kind of weather.
Friday’s game is a sellout even with the cold, dreary weather.
Fans that are heading down to PNC Park are asked to wear black, a request made by Andrew McCutchen.
The Pirates made the blackout game famous during the 2013 Wild Card game against the Cincinnati Reds.
What you should know before you go:
The Gateway Clipper is NOT able to offer shuttle service from Station Square through at least the first three games due to the River Walk flooding.
Gates at PNC Park open at 2:12 p.m. for fans, who are encouraged to be in their seats by 3:30 for opening ceremonies, which will include:
Third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes will get his 2023 Rawlings Gold Glove Award, Players from the Pirates and Orioles will be introduced on the field, members of the United States 316th Sustainment Command Color Guard, God Bless America will be performed by Sergeant Joseph Dukes of the United States Air Force, The National Anthem will be performed by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Brass Section, an Aerial Demonstration featuring two para jumpers and a ceremonial first pitch thrown out by former Pirates manager Jim Leyland, who will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Fans will also get a magnetic Pirates 2024 schedule when they enter the park.
There’s also new food and other features available at PNC Park this season.
First Pitch is scheduled for 4:12 p.m., a new tradition just started a couple seasons ago.
