Former Steelers coach, pair of locals, semifinalists in HOF Coach category

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – A trio of local connections named semifinalists in the Coach category for possible election in the Pro Football Hall of Fame class this year.

The ‘Coach Blue-Ribbon Committee’ selected nine semifinalists and will decided on November 18 one finalist that will go to the full selection committee voting on the 2026 class.

Quaker Valley HS Chuck Knox was the NFL Coach of the Year three times (1973, 1980 and 1984). He was an NFL head coach for 22 seasons (Rams, Bills, Seahawks) going 193-158-1.

Former Steelers head coach Buddy Parker (1957-1964) also coached the Chicago Cardinals (1949) and Detroit Lions (1951-56) where he was a two-time NFL champion and finished 107-76-9 overall.

Fort Cherry HS Marty Schottenheimer won 205 games in his career as the head coach of the Browns, Chiefs, Washington and Chargers.

The competition is elite—six-time Super Bowl champ Bill Belichick, Giants two-time Super Bowl champ Tom Coughlin who went 182-157, Packers Super Bowl champ Mike Holmgren (174 wins), Dan Reeves (201 wins), two-time Super Bowl winners George Seifert (124 wins) and Mike Shanahan (178 wins).
