PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) It's very well possible we have seen the tragic end to what could have been a historic career.
As of Friday evening, Antonio Brown has cleared waivers and became a free agent after being cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Brown's saga keeps getting stranger as it seems every hour a new story or statement comes out regarding his departure from the game against the New York Jets and eventually the Buccaneers.
While Brown is a free agent, a former coach did reach out to him to give him a job in football.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley contacted Brown to join Haley's Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL.
Brown told the Full Send Podcast that his reaction to Haley was "F—k out of here."
Haley had texted Brown about joining the team and Brown seemed almost offended by the offer.
"Bro, listen, I'm Antonio Brown, bro. I played football at the highest. You just asked me for a sorry-ass club to play in the Arena League."
The USFL is the United States Football League and is scheduled to kick of their inaugural season this upcoming April.
The USFL is not at all the Arena Football League which filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and discontinued operations in 2019.
Haley joined the Cook and Joe Show on 93.7 the Fan Friday afternoon and was asked about Brown, and Haley had only good things to say about his former receiver.
"I love AB, he's meant so much to me," Haley said. "There isn't a player, as a coach that you would want anything more from."
Haley was asked if he thought Brown would ever play in the NFL again and Haley answered with hopes that Brown would take his offer to play in the USFL.
"Hopefully he'll be suiting up for the Tampa Bay Bandits."
Given Browns choice words and public response to the offer, it's doubtful that will be happening any time soon.
