PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – So much discussion about staying ahead of Kansas City and getting the first round bye, you may not have noticed that speeding car in the rear-view mirror.
The Cleveland Browns have won four straight games. They are two games behind the Steelers with four to play.
Cleveland finishes with the struggling Ravens Monday night, at the losing record Giants, then at the winless Jets and the Steelers at home. All are conceivable wins.
Since the meltdown against the Steelers in mid-October, Cleveland QB Baker Mayfield has 11 touchdowns to 1 interception and that was against Cincinnati on October 25. Last week against Tennessee, he was nearly perfect with 334 yards passing, four touchdowns and a 147 QB rating.
Mayfield also greatly helped by the rushing game, he hands the ball off and his backs get yards.
Since his return, Nick Chubb has rushed for 464 yards in four games. One of those games, Chubb combined with Kareem Hunt to each go over 100 yards.
While the Browns have some issues on defense, they do have Myles Garrett back.
Steelers hold the tiebreaker if both teams finish 13-3, even if Cleveland would get a home win against the Steelers in the final regular season game. Because for as tough as Monday night may have been, for tiebreaker purposes, it's better to lose to the NFC. All of the Browns losses have been within the conference.
Add another odd footnote to 2020. The Browns are good.
