Rookie Steelers tight end/full back Connor Heyward says he’s happy he has traded in his text books for play books.
Speaking after OTAs on Wednesday, Heyward said while he is no longer a student, he is putting all that extra time that he would’ve been hitting the books, learning the Steelers’ system.
“It’s different than college, I don’t have to go have school after this, it’s you know, football all day and you know that’s what I’ve wanted all my life,” said Heyward adding he gets paid to do it.
Heyward also confirmed that he has been working exclusively with the tight ends during OTAs, but call himself a “Jack of all trades.”
“Hopefully I just continue to be good at a bunch of different things and make the most of my opportunities,” added Heyward saying he’s played special teams in high school and is willing to do whatever is asked of him.
Heyward also commented on his brother Cam Heyward, who he confirmed wasn’t there on Wednesday and may have ruined his reputation as a tough guy.
“Everybody things he’s the big bully, but you know he’s real kind and cool, but you know it’s a good big brother and a good teammate.”
