One thing that can be said about Sunday's loss to Baltimore for the Steelers is that it wasn't one person or phase of the game that was responsible for the loss.
All three phases made huge mistakes that prevented the Steelers, who needed to score just three more points to beat the rival Ravens.
Offense:
Three interceptions from Mitch Trubisky were a killer for the Steelers who once again struggled to score at least 20 points. This time, it was a 14-point effort with four trips into Baltimore territory with zero points…none.
One of those was a blocked field goal, but we'll get to that when we talk about special teams.
After it seems to get gaining some momentum, the running game was stalled again. Najee Harris led the way with 33 yards on 12 carries, averaging 2.8 yards a carry.
One a side note, wide receiver Diontae Johnson had six catches for 82 yards and as the team's top receiver still hasn't caught a touchdown this season and time is running out.
Defense:
The most glaring issue with the defense on Sunday was the Ravens were able to run almost at will against the Steelers.
J.K. Dobbins led the way with 15 carries for 120 yards, averaging 8.0 yards a carry.
Gus Edwards was second with 13 carries for 66 yards, averaging 5.1 yards.
In total, the Ravens has 215 yards on the ground and the sad part is everyone inside Acrisure Stadium knew it was coming.
Backup to the backup Anthony Brown only had five passing attempts for 16-yards, yet the front seven couldn't stop the run, especially at the end of the game when the Steelers desperately needed the ball back to try to go for the win.
Special Teams:
Danny Smith's squad continues to disappoint week after week.
Punter Presley Harvin III's 17-yard punt gave Baltimore great field position and scored a touchdown.
In total, Harvin averaged 37.0 yards a punt.
What would have been a game-winning field goal was blocked.
Coaching:
Just a few highlights,
Before he left the game with a concussion, quarterback Kenny Pickett didn't look prepared for the Ravens defense.
It appeared like zero adjustments were made going into the second half of the game against Baltimore.
As it was stated early, everyone knew the Ravens were running the ball and while the defense couldn't make any plays…the coaching stuff didn't seem to have an answer for their players.
While they have to deal with the players they have, especially at insider linebacker, with Mike Tomlin, Teryl Austin and Brian Flores in the room, you'd think they'd have a somewhat of a better plan.
