PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Currently third in order in terms of getting reps at quarterback during Organized Team Activities, Mason Rudolph said he’s not surprised. Rather he understands and also sees a path for him remaining with the Steelers.

Rudolph said with the quarterback room the Steelers have, younger players need more opportunities. He fully expected to get fewer reps. Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said Mason has played a lot of football and what he’s been impressed with is the 30-year-old’s willingness to learn

“I think you just draw on your experience from all the different all the different situations and combinations that I've been through in my career,” Rudolph said after OTAs on Wednesday. “But I've won games here. I know, I'm capable of winning games. My number has been called upon. That's what I've done.”

“And, you know, each year is a new journey. And we just look forward to pushing forward with the guys in this group and learning new names. My outlook and approach has not changed. I'm gonna take every rep and make the most of it.”

Playing in 26 games (14 starts) with the Steelers, Rudolph said he had a great offseason. He truly is excited and said the benefit is being around McCarthy who he called a ‘notoriously great developer of quarterbacks’.

Rudolph has handled his return to Pittsburgh with a great attitude considering the competition of bringing in Aaron Rodgers and drafting quarterbacks in consecutive years. Rodgers has praised how he works and says he’s one of the funniest players on the team.

Potentially being the odd man out is not a laughing manner. But Rudolph sees a way ahead as the only one after Rodgers who has taken an NFL snap.

“This is a veteran team, we're trying to win now,” Rudolph said. “We don't bring back Aaron Rodgers if you don't want to win, now. Cam Hayward, these guys have been around a long time, and we want to make a playoff push. And I know that I can contribute with that veteran culture.”

Doubling down, Rudolph asked again if he thinks he will stick around on this roster?

“That'd be a question for Mr. Khan and the head coach,” Rudolph said. “I have no clue, I'm here to learn my offense, learn this new offense. My plan is to be here and to be on this team and to help in whatever fashion I can and will.”
