A former NFL general manager and scout isn’t a fan of Miles Boykin. In fact, he’s never liked him.
Vinny Cerrato, now on 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore, says he hasn’t liked the wide receiver since his college days at Notre Dame.
“He caught some balls, but he could never get open,” said Cerrato.
The Steelers grabbed Boykin off of waivers on Tuesday after he was placed on them by the Ravens a day earlier.
He started in 24 games over this three seasons in Baltimore, but did not start any games in 2021 and only have one catch for six yards.
Most of his playing time came on special teams.
Boykin was selected by the Ravens in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft (93rd overall).
“He doesn’t run good routes,” said Cerrato. “The problem with bigger guys is to be a good route runner, you got to be able to sink your hips and get your pads over your toes to be able to get in and out of cut. He can’t do that.”
He adds that Boykin only had one good year in college, his fifth year.
The one thing that Boykin is good at, according to Cerrato, is he is good on special teams and blocking on offense.
“I just don’t think he’s a very good receiver, I’ve never liked him the entire time he’s been (in Baltimore).”
When it comes down to it, Cerrato says the Steelers are getting a good special teams player that can be your fifth receiver.
