PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Injured the preseason and not yet even able to practice in the regular season, Derrick Harmon says he just wants to get out there and help the team. There is a chance this week.

"I'm ready to go,” Harmon said before practice Wednesday. “If my number is called, I'm ready to go."

The Steelers first-round pick and anointed starter on the defensive line, Harmon suffered the knee injury in the preseason. It was first feared to be severe, but he might be able to make his NFL debut at New England. He qualified his statement to say they have to make sure he’s healthy enough and likely the three days of practice will determine that.

“It’s been tough,” Harmon said. “Your first year you want to be out there. First game, first few games not being out there to help the team, it hurts.”

He said he’s been working as hard as he can in the training room to get back from the injury. The rookie said he’s been to every meeting, every walk through, every practice to learn the schemes and has a feel for NFL preparation.

“I’ve been through a lot in my life, so emotionally I feel like I’m battle tested,” Harmon said. “Nothing too much can test me. Right now, by biggest focus is getting out there and helping this team win games.”
