There are already high hopes for Steelers first overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, running back Najee Harris with some even saying he’ll be Rookie of the Year.

But while he has yet to prove himself on an NFL field, he is already doing it in his community.

Harris, who experienced homelessness growing up, has become an advocate for those without housing and has teamed up with the governor of California, his home state, to not only speak about it, but do something about it.

Harris recently visited a new community that provides shelter for homeless people in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley.

Harris, wearing a Pirates hat, told his story of dealing with homelessness, saying there were times he and six other family member had to live in a van and traveled from shelter to shelter in the Bay Area.

Harris also made a video with Gov. Gavin Newsom and signed shirts for every child he met during his visit at the new complex.

“I appreciate you man, this is a big deal for all the folks out here, giving them a big shot in the arm,” said Newsom.

Harris, who is only 23, says a lot of his time is spent learning the Steelers playbook but in his off time, spends his time looking around to see what non-profits he can help.

He plans and already has showed his charitable ways in the Pittsburgh area as well.

Harris’ charitable efforts are not going unnoticed.

Bleacher Report’s Grid Iron tweeted out a quote from harris and NFL great Adrian Peterson said, “And that’s how you create change.”
