PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He was a huge factor the other time the Steelers played an AFC North opponent and despite missing some practice this week Alex Highsmith said he will be able to play through a groin injury Sunday against the Ravens.
"Absolutely, I'll be good," Highsmith said Friday. "Just a little tightness, but just want to be smart with it. I will be ready to go."
"I want to be smart with it. That's why we gave it some rest this week, definitely going to be ready to go for Sunday."
Highsmith said it is something that popped up in practice this week. He said he's been getting a lot of treatment and rest so he's ready for Baltimore. The fourth-year linebacker admitted he did more Friday than Thursday, but was absorbing mental reps the last two days.
He said he's not sure if he will have to limit reps this week. So far this season he's played 78% of the defensive snaps.
"Him and TJ mean the world to each other out there because it's hard to account for both of them," said corner Patrick Peterson. "You have to chip on one of them, have one less player going out, down the field for a route. It changes the timing of pass plays and the dynamic in run fits tremendously."
That said, Peterson, Highsmith and TJ Watt said they have confidence in back-ups Markus Golden and Nick Herbig.
