PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – For the ninth time, Steelers receiver Hines Ward is a nominee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He joins a couple of other Steelers and a very outspoken player from Plum HS and a QB from Central Catholic HS, both of whom played at West Virginia.
Ward has not only made it to the nominee list, but a semi-finalist for the last eight years. He is the Steelers all-time leading receiver with 1,000 catches for 12,083 yards and 85 touchdowns.
Joining Ward are three defensive players who were key to Super Bowl championships. Outside linebacker James Harrison is one of the Steelers all-time leading sackers, had the 99-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Super Bowl and was a semi-finalist last year. Joining him is the defensive captain of many of those teams, inside linebacker James Farrior. Along with one of the unsung heroes of that defense, nose tackle Casey Hampton.
Former West Virginia and Central Catholic quarterback Marc Bulger was nominated joining another Mountaineer, ESPN host and Plum HS grad Pat McAfee. The NFL’s third all-time leading scorer, Steelers kicker Gary Anderson is part of the list of 167 former players.
