PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Some really good news on the Steelers injury report as the team held a first practice for the Jets on Wednesday.

Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick was able to go full after reporting concussion symptoms following the Cleveland game.  Already without TJ Watt, not having Fitzpatrick on Sunday would be a huge blow to the defense.

The defense likely will be without corner Ahkello Witherspoon.  The 27-year-old starter was unable to go Wednesday due to a hamstring injury.  He had an interception and two passes defended in three starts this season.  In three starts last year, he had three interceptions.

“This is football, next man up,” said corner Levi Wallace.  “That’s why you have a depth chart.  The standard doesn’t drop.  We have to do what we have to do.”

James Pierre likely is that next man up.  He started four games last season and has played in 36 in his three-year NFL career, mostly on special teams.

“JP is super-athletic as well,” Wallace said.  “I think he’s one of the most athletic corners I’ve seen in a while.  He will be prepared, he works hard.  He really wants to be a corner in this league who is respected.  He puts the work in and asks a lot of questions.”

Starting guard Kevin Dotson was able to go full with his ankle injury.  Punter Jordan Berry was at practice, but starter Pressley Harvin did go full as he is dealing with a hip injury.
