Is a major renovation or new stadium in the works for the Steelers?

It’s been 23 years since Heinz Field, now Acrisure Stadium opened. Could a major renovation or even a new stadium be coming sooner than later?

It seems like that could be in the plans with David Moorehouse being promoted to Steelers’ Executive vice President for Strategy.

Moorehouse spend over 15 years with the Penguins as a senior executive before becoming a senior advisor last August with the Steelers.

In a release, the Steelers said Moorehouse “will now guide the strategic direction of Acrisure Stadium operations in addition to serving as senior advisor to the President on Steelers business operations.”

“David is well-known in Pittsburgh and around the country as an innovator and leader in effective sports management and strategy,” Steelers owner Art Rooney II said.
“Working with him the last nine months, we are excited to tap into his skills to help us enhance our business operation and, more importantly, serve our fans in these ever-evolving times.”

Other teams like the Browns and Titans are either renovating or building completely new stadiums, with their fields opening around the same time as Acrisure.

Fan Morning Show co-host Dorin Dickerson, who worked with Moorehouse when they were both with the Penguins, said he is the perfect guy for the job.

Dickerson and Adam Crowley aren’t sure if it will be a renovation or a new stadium, maybe adding a retractable roof, but they are both sure something is coming.

If the Steelers do decide to start fresh, will they stay on the North Shore or move north to the Cranberry area, where the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex is.

Part of Moorehouse’s job will also involving figuring out how to maximize the facility with more concerts and other activities to increase revenue for the venue.

If the Steelers do leave the North Shore, that will upset a lot of people who have invested in businesses near the stadium.

We’ll just have to wait and see, but change seems to be coming to the Steelers’ home.
