Kaboly: Rudolph looks like the Steelers #1 QB

Mitch Trubisky will be the starter for the Steelers first preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday at Acrisure Stadium and will likely be the starter for the regular season.

But should he?

The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly tells Cook & Joe that if Trubisky didn’t have NFL experience as a starter and Kenny Pickett wasn’t a first-round draft pick, it would be Mason Rudolph starting Week One for the Steelers.

“I haven’t seen many flaws from Mason,” said Kaboly. “He’s making reads, he’s not turning the ball over in the red zone, making some deep throws.”

Kaboly adds that Trubisky and Pickett are also making some nice throws but Rudolph has been the most consistent.

It should be noted that it is still just practice and Rudolph is the most familiar with Matt Canada’s playbook.

“Consistent in practice and consistent in games are two different things,” said Kaboly.

“I think he is a hefty step ahead of the other guys in how they’ve performed so far in camp,” said Kaboly.

If it was up to him, Kaboly says his current depth chart would be

1.     Rudolph

2.     Trubisky

3.     Pickett
