PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – You got to think after demanding a trade from Seattle and then talking to Steelers about a contract extension, receiver DK Metcalf would want to have an idea who his quarterback is. If not the entire time, for at least this year.

Metcalf actually talked to his Seahawks QB Russell Wilson on Wednesday. In his first three seasons with Wilson, 30 wins, 216 receptions for 3,170 yards and 29 touchdowns. What Metcalf called Wilson about was more of another life moment.

Metcalf proposed to his girlfriend on Wednesday in Houston and wanted to let Wilson know because Russ and his wife set the couple up. He said they didn't talk about Wilson's playing future, although he did say Wilson told him he would love living in Pittsburgh.

Now it's about finding out whether it's Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, who the starting quarterback is. Not that he seems concerned about who it will be.

"They made me feel like they had the right decision with who was going to be throwing me the football," Metcalf said Thursday. "I'm not making the decision in the quarterback room, so I'm just going to try to do the best of my abilities to help whoever they have out there throwing the football so they make the correct decisions to bring the quarterback in here. I'm just going to roll with that."

He played against the Steelers two years ago, so the 6'4", 235-pound receiver says he understands the type of style of the offense, even though the coordinator has changed. Metcalf said the Steelers are a disciplined team. He believes in the entire roster including the new players, pointing out Darius Slay. He believes they will draft well next month.

That's why he wanted to sign here. But it also centers around a conversation with the head coach six years ago.

"I thought that to the meeting me and Coach Tomlin had at the 2019 NFL Combine," Metcalf said. "And he just always spoke volumes into me and spoke of my play style in college and, just being in the league and going up to him before after a game. He kept that same rapport with me. It just felt like the right decision for me."

He added everything now comes full circle to be able to play with Tomlin.

BTW

Metcalf wanted to be clear of a couple of things that were reported of his demands when being traded. He didn't say he had to go to a contender, nor to a warm-weather environment.

"We never said none of that," Metcalf said. "Me and my team never said, warm city, a contender, none of that. We just took the trade requests and moved forward with the teams that really showed interest, and they showed interest from day one. We just built on the relationship that we had from the first conversation, and here we are."

Confident

Metcalf's lowest receiving yards over six years was 900 (rookie year) and his highest was 1,303 (2nd year). He's never had fewer than five touchdowns in a season and never fewer than 58 receptions. He said those numbers will continue.

"I just think the way that I play, it just jumps off the tape and I've just consistently put that on film," Metcalf said. "You know, year in and year out. And I try not to have a drop off and I'm not going to have a drop off."
