PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – One of the big-name receivers who was scheduled to visit Pittsburgh later this week is no longer a free agent. Mike Williams will sign with the New York Jets as reported on Tuesday..
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport it's for one-year, $15 million.
While it does take Williams off the board, it also eliminates one of the potential landing spots for Clairton native, Pitt star and Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd. According to Mark Kaboly of the Athletic, Boyd was in heavy talks with the Jets.
Boyd is the highest rated free agent available. Also, still unsigned are former All Pros Odell Beckham, Junior and Michael Thomas.
Williams was released by the Chargers to save $20 million under the salary cap. He is also coming off a torn ACL and likely won't be able to practice until August. The 29-year-old only played in three games last year with Los Angeles, but has a pair of 1,000-yard seasons in his seven years. Overall, 309 catches, 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns.
