Nantz and Romo had high praise for Fields during broadcast

The top NFL of CBS broadcast team was in Pittsburgh for the Steelers home opener on Sunday and they were impressed by what they saw at quarterback.

Jim Nantz and Tony Romo were on the call and the former Dallas Cowboys QB had high praise for Justin Fields during the game.

Romo said he thinks the Steelers may have their quarterback. Fields’ performances are going to make it hard for Mike Tomlin to put veteran QB Russell Wilson under center, when he is healthy.

Romo asked after Fields’ 55-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Austin III if the former Bears first-round pick is taking a big step.

Romo also asked Nantz if the 20-10 win against the Charger was the biggest of Fields’ career.

“Yeah, you gotta think,” said Nantz. “He started . . . 6 and 26 so, he didn’t have a lot of big ones.”

Nantz went on to point out Chicago traded Fields to Pittsburgh for a sixth-round pick, that could turn into a fourth-rounder, depending on playing time.

“Could be the steal of the offseason with the way it’s started right now,” said Romo. “Let’s see if it continues but I think you might’ve found your quarterback of the future, the near future for sure.”

Fields was 25-of-32 on Sunday with 245 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He had a QB rating of 96.0.

“At the end of the day, it’s not just me winning games,” said Fields. “It’s the whole team. I’m just happy to be a part of this team, happy to be part of this organization. We definitely look forward to keeping it going vs. Indy.”

And Romo had high praise for T.J. Watt, calling him a "modern day Lawrence Taylor."
