Notes & Quotes-Watt injury-milestone, personal foul, key stats
"We can't pout. We have to learn from it. We aren't afforded a lot of time. We have to have a memory like a goldfish."
PHILADELPHIA (93.7 The Fan) – The notes and quotes from the Steelers 27-13 loss at Philadelphia on Sunday. What was said about TJ Watt's injury? What the referee said about the unsportsmanlike call and Calvin Austin's reaction. Plus, the best comments from the Steelers locker room and key stats
Watt injury
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he would have more information at noon Monday during his news conference on 93.7 The Fan on TJ Watt's fourth quarter injury. Tomlin said he believed it was a lower ankle injury. TJ said simply 'we will have to wait and see' in the locker room after.
"Feel bad for a guy that works his tail off," said Steelers captain Cam Heyward. "Hopefully I we will get him back soon, but I'm not a doctor. We'll see what happens."
"He's a leader of the whole squad," said Steelers tackle Broderick Jones. "When you lose a piece like that, you know it's a big deal. Everybody is just praying for him and hoping for the best. Hopefully it's nothing too major. Hopefully he can play next week."
"Fingers crossed, hopefully he recovers fast," Heyward added. "If he's not able to go, I like to think we are well equipped to get these guys right and go into the lion's den in the Baltimore Ravens."
Earlier in the game, Watt moved first past Ed 'Too Tall' Jones and then Mark Gastineau on the NFL all-time sacks list. Watt has 108 in his career and is 44th all-time. Calais Campbell and Greg Townsend are next with 109.5. Aaron Donald and Randy White have 111.
Personal foul
Tomlin pointed to it being a big play early in the game, when Darnell Washington and Calvin Austin were called for unsportmanlike penalties with the ball at the Eagles four-yard line. It appeared Washington and a couple of Philly players were exchanging punches, but only the Steelers were called for it.
"No punches were observed on the field (by the Eagles)," said referee Alan Eck. "Since we had flags down, it gave New York an opportunity to review the play as well. There was no video evidence of punches observed by the Philadelphia Eagles."
Tomlin said he didn't get a sufficient answer from the refs as to why the Steelers were the only team penalized. Austin surmised it was because the Steelers were the road team. He was surprised it was just called on one team.
"If I see plenty of Eagles come up and surround him, then I'm going to help by dog," Austin said. "I guess being the biggest guy out there, I'm going to get a flag called on me."
