PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – We’re to the point where NFL draft hopefuls have been hyped, torn down, hyped again and torn down and now a late comment from an NFL coach ripping Shedeur Sanders. What a former GM said about the comments on 93.7 The Fan on Wednesday.
The latest comes Tuesday night to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The insider reported that a longtime NFL assistant coach told him "(Sanders had) the worst formal interview I've ever been in in my life. He's so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates. ... But the biggest thing is, he's not that good."
What Whaley explained on the Fan Morning Show is in an NFL Draft room you want to have as few questions as possible about a first-round pick. You also want to make sure your evaluation has the word ‘dynamic’ in it. Whaley said you don’t hear a lot about Shedeur with the word dynamic. You hear competitive, accurate, leadership, but not as much dynamic.
Whaley said what it will come down to for Sanders to have success in the NFL.
“When you sit down is his brain dynamic enough to overcome his lack of physical dynamics,” Whaley said. “That’s where you just don’t know. That’s what was different with Tom Brady.”
The expectations will be huge for Sanders, no player in the 2025 Draft will be talked about more or have more expectations than Shedeur. Not the first-overall pick, not anyone else. Whaley doesn’t believe this is an issue for Sanders in the slightest.
“Nothing ever is going to be too big for him,” Whaley said with Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson. “He went from Jackson State to Colorado and didn’t skip a beat. He’s been around this entertainment, sports industry since he was little. He’s got one of the most famous dads. His dad is going to help navigate. For me, everybody thinks this is a black mark against him, I think it’s a positive because he’s can help him navigate everything that he is going to see and help him sidestep the potholes.”
Let’s talk more about his father. One of the greatest football players ever with maybe the biggest personality ever. When questions arose at Colorado, head coach Deion Sanders would eliminate the reporters’ access. If Shedeur is not starting with the Steelers. He isn’t allowed to audible or running a conservative offense where he can’t just go and make plays, will dad interfere?
“For people to think Deion Sanders is going to meddle, you have to be absolutely crazy,” Whaley said on 93.7 The Fan. “When he was Prime Time, there wasn’t one report from a teammate that he was a bad teammate because he respected the game. He respects the NFL, the game, his son and more importantly Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers.”
