PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – There were little details about Kenny Pickett's status after ankle surgery, other than head coach Mike Tomlin said the Steelers starting quarterback is not lost for the season.

He confirmed that Pickett has a high-ankle sprain. He had it surgically repaired on Monday 'in an effort to accelerate the healing process'. Tomlin said he is out this week and often they find out more after the surgery. He did say they expect him to return this season.

Tomlin said he was managing the injured ankle all last week and it just became aggravated on the tackle near the goal line. He said he didn't know if he's viewing it as something that is chronic, he's taking it on a case-by-case basis.

Pickett was 7-10 for 70 yards before the first-half injury against the Cardinals. He was coming off his most productive game in terms of yardage, 278 yards and completion percentage 73% against the Bengals the week before. Overall, Pickett is 24th in the NFL in passing yards with 2,070 behind New England's Mac Jones and a couple of QBs who started the season as back-ups-Gardner Minshew and Joshua Dobbs. His six touchdown passes are behind Will Levis, Tommy DeVito, Desmond Ridder and tied with the Jets Zach Wilson.

Mitch Trubisky will start for the Steelers Thursday night against New England.
