PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers will be without a pair of safeties again with better news at quarterback against the Seahawks on Sunday.
Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick did not practice all week and the Pro Bowl safety won’t play against Seattle due to a knee injury. While he went through a full practice on Thursday, safety Trenton Thompson has been ruled out by doctors.
“It’s a serious situation and after talking with the doctors and trying to go through this week of practice, the arm is still acting up,” Thompson said. “It sucks, but there is nothing I can do about it because I have to pay attention to my health.”
“It does suck not playing and not being out there with them. I got some burn here for the first time and was able to show myself. It’s hard to be sat down, but there is longevity in football. That’s what I’m thinking about right now.”
Thompson said he would not be available against the Ravens, but would push to be cleared to play in the playoffs.
The 26-year-old then quickly said how others stepped up last week and he was excited that Eric Rowe, who has a locker next to Thompson, would get another opportunity after his impressive performance against Cincinnati.
QB question
Kenny Pickett didn’t dress for the game against the Bengals after ankle surgery earlier this month. He was able to go through limited practices all week and has not been ruled out to be the back-up or emergency quarterback against Seattle. The second-year QB is officially questionable.
Other injuries
Linebacker Elandon Roberts listed as out, but Mike Tomlin had announced that earlier this week. Guard Isaac Seumalo did not practice on Friday, but is cleared to play on Sunday. Tailback Najee Harris did not practice Wednesday, limited on Thursday, but cleared to play after a full practice Friday.
